Problem 1 – Risk Modelling and Prediction in Public Transport 

Transdev Portugal is a public transport operator providing mobility services across mainland Portugal, with a strong presence in the Northern and Central regions. As part of the Transdev Group, active in 19 countries across five continents, it is recognised as an international reference in the mobility sector. 

Safety is a core priority for Transdev. Based on data such as road type, vehicle type, day, time, and historical accident records, the challenge is to identify risk patterns associated with routes and to develop methods for predicting and preventing accidents. 

Problem 2 – Stock pair planning 

At COFICAB Guarda, a manufacturing facility dedicated to producing cable solutions for the automotive industry, the efficient pairing of incomplete spools represents a significant planning challenge, with a direct impact on stock availability utilization, waste reduction, and logistics performance. 

This challenge consists of determining efficient ways to combine incomplete spools into standardized lengths, with the goal of optimizing production and inventory. In addition to reducing waste, an effective solution should also simplify handling and transport cost otimization, contributing to a more efficient and sustainable operation. 

Problem 3 – Electrical resistance model 

At COFICAB Guarda, an industrial site producing cable solutions for the automotive sector, the definition and adjustment of conductor compositions is a relevant engineering challenge with direct impact on cost optimization, process performance, and compliance with automotive industry standards. 

The company needs to define and adjust conductor compositions in order to meet cost targets, while ensuring full compliance with the rules and standards mainly linear resistance of the automotive industry. 

The challenge is to develop an algorithm based on empirical data related to conductor elongation across the different industrial processes. This algorithm will support us in optimizing the definition of conductor compositions.
